How to avoid cutting burrs in Metal Shear

To avoid burrs in Metal Shear cutting, it is necessary to start from the tool, equipment parameters and material processing.
1. Tool selection and maintenance
The appropriate tool material should be selected according to the hardness, toughness and other characteristics of the metal material. When cutting hard metals, carbide tools have strong wear resistance, can maintain a sharp edge, and reduce burrs; while when cutting soft metals such as copper and aluminum, high-speed steel tools have sharp edges, which can reduce material deformation and prevent burrs. At the same time, the state of the tool's edge directly affects the cutting effect. Regularly check the edge wear, grind or replace the worn tool in time to ensure the sharpness and flatness of the edge. If there is a notch or passivation on the edge, the material cannot be cut smoothly during cutting, and burrs are easily formed.
2. Reasonably adjust equipment parameters
If the cutting speed is too fast, the metal material will be forcibly separated before it can be fully cut, which will lead to an increase in burrs. The cutting speed should be reasonably reduced according to the material characteristics and tool performance; if the tool gap is too large, the material will be dislocated and deformed during the cutting process, resulting in burrs. The tool gap needs to be accurately adjusted according to the material thickness. Generally speaking, the thinner the material, the smaller the tool gap should be; if the feed rate is too large, the cutting force will increase, and the material surface will be prone to tearing, which will then form burrs. The feed rate should be properly controlled to ensure smooth cutting.
3. Pretreatment of metal materials

Cleaning the oil, impurities and oxide scale on the surface of the material before cutting can reduce the adhesion and obstruction of the material during the cutting process; for materials with uneven hardness or internal stress, the performance can be improved by heat treatment such as annealing, so that the cutting process is smoother and the possibility of burrs is reduced. Through the above measures, the generation of burrs during Metal Shear cutting can be effectively reduced and the cutting quality can be improved.
